Major Industrial Electrical Installation for SUEZ Bolton Regeneration Project
J. Shaw Group has successfully completed an extensive six-month electrical installation package as part of a multimillion-pound regeneration project at the SUEZ facility in Bolton.
Our team was responsible for a substantial programme of industrial electrical works, supporting the installation of new lighting, control systems, cranes and material-handling equipment across the site.
Complete External Containment Installation
A major element of the project involved installing a comprehensive external containment system capable of supporting the new electrical infrastructure in a demanding industrial environment.
The installation included:
- Stainless-steel cable tray
- Stainless-steel cable ladder
- Associated containment supports and brackets
- Heavy-duty containment for external power and control cabling
- Coordinated containment routes serving new plant and machinery
Stainless steel was selected to provide a strong, durable and corrosion-resistant containment solution suitable for long-term external use.
The containment routes were carefully planned and coordinated with the wider regeneration works, ensuring the electrical installation integrated effectively with the new plant, structures and operational equipment.

External Armoured Cabling
Following completion of the containment systems, our engineers installed extensive runs of steel wire armoured cabling throughout the site.
These cables provided power and control supplies to a wide range of equipment, including:
- External lighting systems
- Electrical control systems
- On-site cranes
- Material-handling equipment
- Industrial plant and machinery
- Emergency lighting equipment
- Associated distribution and isolation equipment
All cabling was professionally installed, supported, glanded and terminated to provide a robust electrical system capable of operating reliably within a demanding industrial environment.
Power for Cranes and Material-Handling Equipment
The regeneration project included the installation of new cranes and specialist material-handling equipment.
J. Shaw Group provided the associated electrical infrastructure, including power supplies, cabling, containment, local isolation and connections to control equipment.
Working closely with the equipment manufacturers, principal contractor and other specialist contractors, our team coordinated the electrical installation around the wider construction and commissioning programme.
This required careful planning to ensure that supplies were available when required and that the completed installation met the operational demands of the new equipment.
Lighting and Control System Supplies
Our scope also included installing the electrical supplies and cabling required for new lighting and control systems throughout the facility.
The installation was designed to support safe and efficient site operations, with power and control cabling routed through the newly installed stainless-steel containment systems.
Our engineers worked across multiple areas of the site, coordinating each phase of the installation with the ongoing regeneration works and the requirements of other trades.

Full Emergency Lighting Fit-Out
J. Shaw Group completed a comprehensive emergency lighting installation across the facility.
The works included the installation of emergency luminaires, electrical supplies, fire-resistant cabling, containment, test facilities and associated control equipment.
Emergency lighting was positioned to support safe evacuation from operational areas, access routes, stairways, plant areas and external sections of the site in the event of a loss of normal lighting.
Following installation, the emergency lighting system was fully tested to verify its operation and confirm that the equipment performed as intended.
A Six-Month Industrial Electrical Project
The project was delivered by the J. Shaw Group team over approximately six months.
Throughout the programme, our engineers worked alongside the principal contractor, equipment manufacturers and other specialist trades to deliver the electrical installation safely and in line with the overall regeneration schedule.
Careful coordination was essential due to the scale of the project, the number of contractors operating across the facility and the need to integrate the new electrical infrastructure with specialist industrial equipment.
The completed works demonstrate our ability to deliver substantial, long-term electrical packages within complex industrial environments.
